How to perfect the layering trend

Layering has become a huge trend this season with some of the major fashion houses such as Prada, Chanel and Louis Vuitton, adopting this stylish trend. Whilst it may look as easy as throwing on a few different items, more often than not it is far from it. Unless you're a natural fashionista like Kate Moss, it may take more than a few goes before you start looking less homeless and more glamourous. So what is the key to nailing the layering trend? Mixing and matching. Colours, textures, lengths and proportions are what it's all about so girls pick your favourite fabrics and styles and get layering!

These girls show us how it's done.

Style Profile: Georgie Wheeler

Meet Georgie! The creative force behind the fashion line OneOneSeven

How did you fall into designing clothes?
I did an art and design course when I was 16 and all my mates were doing fashion. I basically chose fashion over fine art so I could sit next to my friends in class and then I ended up doing an honours degree and then a masters degree and then I had to keep on going with it, otherwise it would be a wasted education!!

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Being creative, working independently, working with inspiring people, being able to look at colours, prints, clothes and pretty stuff all day... learning about who my customers are and what they like.

Who are your favourite designers?
Eley kishimoto, Bernard Wilhelm, Sass and Bide, Romance was born and Holly Fulton.

What do you like to do on the weekends?
I love to run, bush walk, swim, ocean canoeing , drink booze, sunbathe, picnics, barbeques, usual stuff, vintage market shopping. I like cooking.

Favorite accessory?
My fluro yellow ring at the moment.  I bought it in Melbourne. It cheers up any outfit. Wish I had bought the pink one and the green one too now since I wear it nearly every day!

What is one thing you cannot live without?
Chilli and salt on food. Mesh bras from american apparel or calvin klein. comme de garcon perfume. fresh flowers. oh sorry thats 5 things.

Favourite city to shop in?
TOKYO!!!!!

Do you have any advice for those who are trying to become fashion designers?
You need to love it and take it seriously and you need to love being a hands on type of person and not mind getting your hands dirty. MOST OF THE TIME ITS NOT GLAMOUROUS AT ALL!  ha ha. ...But it is super fun and you do get to travel and do heaps of fun stuff  - you just have to be prepared to work hard for it.
